April 19, 2011
Dear Steps Members and Allies:
We have changed the date for Steps Coalition Quarterly Meeting from April 21 to Tuesday, April 26. Steps Allies informed us that Thursday, April 21st is Holy Thursday and part of Holy Week in Christian traditions and many churches are having services that evening. We want to be respectful of this religious observance and we regret that we scheduled an evening meeting on Holy Thursday.
So please mark your calendars to attend Steps Coalition Quarterly Meeting on Tuesday, April 26th from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. at DeMiller Hall.
Thank you for being a member of the Steps Coalition, a brave movement that brings together diverse social justice allies under a large umbrella to develop creative ways of addressing “community driven” work.
This letter is a special invitation to attend Steps first Quarterly Meeting of the year:
• Date: Tuesday, April 26th (NEW DATE!)
• Time: 5:30 – 8:00 p.m.
• Place: DeMiller Hall, 601 Water Street, Biloxi, MS
At the January 2011 Assessment and Planning Retreat, Steps members reaffirmed this movement and Steps partnerships to transform oppressive systems that impact Steps five social justice pillars Economic Justice, Environmental Justice, Human Rights, Preservation of Historic Neighborhoods and Affordable Housing. We also agreed to embark on a new way of doing our work together by developing Action Plans with measurable results and outcomes.
On April 26th, Steps Work Groups will lay out progress in their work plan and seek your assistance in refining and further developing their plans. Even if you don’t currently participate in a Campaign or Work Groups, we invite your thoughts and ideas on how we can “work better together.”
At the April 26th Quarterly Meeting you will hear about new developments in the Port Campaign: “Partners for a Safe and Healthy Port,“ which is rapidly moving the campaign and Gulfport community toward a discussion for a Community Benefits Agreement.
Please take a few minutes to complete the attached registration form to confirm your attendance at the Quarterly Meeting or call Farlene Bowman at 228-435-3113 or stepshelp2010@gmail.com.
